Printing on CIM Printers

Are you having trouble connecting to the CIMPrintRelease queue to print?

Have you tried to print something and come across an error you’re not able to fix?

This is the place to get started. The CIM department maintains 4 Konica Minolta multi-function printers that are intended for use by the CIM departments.

The printers are in various locations throughout the building:

  • One printer is on the ground floor in the common area
  • One printer is located in the Reprographics room on the first floor (1-31)
  • One printer is located on the Second floor in the common area
  • One Printer is located in the Admin office.
  • One printer is located in the McCrea Building for the Mathematics department

Below are instructions for installing the printers on a few of the popular operating systems.

Windows

This section will explain how to install the printers for the Computer Science, Maths and Information Security department on a Windows machine.

  1. Open the start menu and type “printers and scanners” and click on the option that pops up.
  2. You will see one or more entries that have “CIMPrintRelease” in the name. please right-click and “remove” any printers with this in their name as we’ll re-install them now.
  3. Open a file browser (e.g: My Documents or This PC) and paste this address into the browser: “\\rhulprint.rhul.ac.uk” and you’ll be presented with a selection of printers. If this is your first time connecting to the printer, you’ll be asked to log in with your RHUL credentials. ***Note: you’ll need to put “CC\” prefix to your username as this specifies the correct domain.***
  4. Right-click the printer named “CIMPrintRelease” and click “Connect”.
  5. A short installation will take place (click yes or okay to any options that pop up) and following that you should be able to print.
CIM Printers – MacOS

This section will explain how to install the printers for the Computer Science, Maths and Information Security department on an Apple device.

    1. First install this driver for your Mac OS:  IT5PSMACOS_.dmg (44710 KB).
  2. If your device is running Mac OS < 10.15 , go to Konica Printer Centre and search for Bizhub C554 and download the driver that matches your machine’s OS and install it.
  3. Open System Preferences and go to the Printers & Scanners tab.
  4. Click + to add another printer and go to the IP Tab.
  5. Enter the following details:
    • Address: rhulprint.rhul.ac.uk
    • Protocol: Line Printer Daemon – LPD
    • Queue: CIMPrintRelease
    • Name: CIMPrintRelease
    • Location: Bedford Building/McCrea Building
    • Use: Select Software > KONICA MINOLTA C554
  6. You’ll be presented with a list of options for the driver, enter the following:
    • Paper Source Unit: PC-410
    • Finisher: FS-533
    • Punch unit: None
    • Hard Drive: Yes (default)
    • Secure Print Only: No
    • Allow Public User: No
    • 1200dpi Rendering Op: Yes (default)
  7. Click OK and the printer will be added. Before you print you must add two files to your system library.
  8. Download both of the following files: PrintConfig1 and PrintConfig2
  9. Open the “/Library/Preferences” folder and copy/paste the two .plist files you downloaded into it. You’ll be prompted for a password for an administrator account on the laptop. You may need to bring the device to our office and we can do this for you. After moving these files you’re good to start printing.
